Its called the complement to Mother’s Day. After Mother’s Day was established the movement for Father’s Day soon began. The credit for the starting of Father’s Day is given to Sonora Smart Dodd. Dodd’s father was a veteran and also a single father who raised 6 children. In 1910 Dodd began to celebrate Father’s Day with the help of his church on the third sunday of June. The day did not have much success at first. And Dodd began studying in Chicago and could not spend the time to promote it.

Finally, in the 1930’s Dodd returned to her home city and pick up where she left off. Dodd was the driving force behind the celebration. She wanted it to be as big as mother’s was becoming at the time, and was promoting it constantly. In 1972, Father’s Day was passed in congress and it became a national holiday. Father’s Day is celebrate in many countries, and most of them celebrate it on the third Sunday of June.
