Daith Piercings for Your Health
Since a long time ago, people have been searching for certain cures to common diseases and illnesses. It is not surprising that anyone will try anything just to have a solution to a problem. Recently, there has been talk about this unconventional body piercing that can give a short-term cure to migraines – Daith piercings.
If you have ever suffered from a migraine, you know that it can be a debilitating experience. Some common symptoms associated with migraines include a piercing headache on the forehead or temples (no pun intended), sensitivity to light, sensitivity to movement, nausea, and many more. For some, these symptoms occur almost all at once, which can prevent the migraine sufferer from normal functions, such as work.
There are no “cures” for migraines at this time. There are no sure or easy fixes. This is why the medical and science community are so interested in claims of the daith piercing as a solution or preventative for migraine sufferers.
This rare, non-traditional piercing is a modern invention created by Erik Dakota in 1992. Daith, pronounced as “Day-th”, has a meaning that is based on a Hebrew word “Daath” from the Kabbalistic Tree of Knowledge. The piercer and the client that time were interested in Hinduism and Hebrew studies, and then gave the meaning of the word, “smart” or “intelligence”. They were drawn to the idea that piercings placed on the entrance of an orifice served as the guardian at the gate. Following this, Daith piercing represents knowledge guarding the entrance to your ear.
Daith piercing is essentially an ear piercing. It passes though the ear’s innermost cartilage fold, the crus of the helix. Due to its location, it is dubbed as an “awkward place” to pierce due to it being in a curvy place, usually pierced with a straight hollow needle. Common jewelry to wear here are curved barbells, captive bead rings and hearts and moon shaped jewelry. Septum clickers can also be placed here.
Migraines have been a bothersome existence since long ago. The severe headache usually appears as a throbbing pain at the front or side of the head and often causes feelings of nausea, vomiting and increased sensitivity to light or sound. It usually affects a person three times a day, but it also depends on how worse the condition is. For some, the symptoms get so intense that they are unable to work or parent or go to school. Because many of the symptoms are subjective, meaning you cannot prove you have a headache, some physicians or colleagues may not understand the depth of the damage it can cause in someone’s life, if they themselves have not suffered one previously.
The location of the piercing happens to be an acupuncture pressure point. Although the effect of the piercing cannot be directly related to an actual acupuncture procedure, it is considered an “alternative”. The principle here is that it mimics by hitting a pressure point. This works by stimulating the nerves under the skin and in the muscle tissue which relieves the pressure in the patient’s head. This results in endorphins, the body’s pain-relieving substances, which are likely responsible for the beneficial effects.
Although there are many rumors circulating about the daith piercings’ health effects, there is no established evidence. But even though this is the case, a lot have spoken of its beneficial effects. As an alternative approach, it could lessen one’s medication dependency, which is always a good option. It could also be that this piercing can act as a placebo effect, and that it can positively affect one’s perception of pain.
Daith piercing, equipped with a positive outlook, can lessen migraines. It’s a simple and inexpensive procedure that a lover of piercing can appreciate and enjoy. Daith piercing should be embraced not only by its health benefits but also its aesthetic aspect. Why not adorn your piercing with a septum clicker? You can never go wrong by having a cool jewelry to pair with a rare piercing. Like to know more recommended jewelries?
